Registration Fees, if received before 10 April 1996, are as follows:

After 10 April 1996 there is a unique late registration fee of 48,000 Ptas.

The fee covers the cost of the Proceedings, the reception and the conference dinner.

payment upon late registration at the conference must be in Pesetas or travellers' cheques. Personal cheques cannot be accepted for late registrations.

Any cancellations, modifications, etc. must be communicated directly to the EPAC'96 Secretariat. In the case of written cancellations made before 10 April 1996, 70% of the total pre-paid amount will be refunded. No reimbursement can be made for cancellation after this date.

Registration will take place from 16h00 to 20h00 on Sunday, 9 June 1996. The Registration Desks will be open from 08h00 to 19h00 on Monday, 10 June, from 08h30 to 19h00 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 11 to 13 June, and from 08h30 to 13h00 on Friday, 14 June .

Categories and prices in Pesetas of hotel accommodation are also shown on the Accommodation and Excursions Request Form sent out with the First Announcement and Call for Papers; the hotel locations are shown on the map of Sitges also included in the First Announcement. All rates shown are in Spanish Pesetas, per room and night with breakfast included, but excluding 7% VAT (local taxes). All requests for accommodation will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis until the cut-off date of 10 April 1996. Delegates are strongly urged to use the Conference Hotel (the Gran Sitges) to take advantage of the excellent amenities and advantageous rates offered. Please make reservations in good time, and in any case before 10 April, 1996.

In order to guarantee reservations, payment of a deposit for each requested room is essential; no request for accommodation will be processed without payment of the deposit. State clearly the number of rooms required. In the event of a first choice hotel being full, a room will be reserved at either the second or third choice hotel. Should these two also be full, OTAC will endeavour to obtain accommodation at another hotel of similar category, not included in the EPAC'96 programme, but the rate might be higher. To avoid disappointment, return the Accommodation and Excursions Request Form at your earliest convenience. Confirmation of the hotel reservation and receipt of the deposit will be in the form of a deposit voucher, for the amount of the deposit less any bank charges, to be presented to the hotel for deduction from the final bill.

Cancellations will be accepted, with full refund of the deposit paid (less bank charges) if OTAC, S.A. is notified in writing by 10 April 1996 at the latest. Refunds will be dealt with after the conference. Failure to notify either OTAC, S.A. or the assigned hotel, of any change or delayed arrival within one week of the notified arrival date, will result in the loss of the hotel deposit and the cancellation of the reservation.

Rental of apartments in Sitges will be subject to availability. Rental periods are usually for a minimum of 2 weeks, and the approximate cost for this period for an apartment sleeping 4 starts at approximately Ptas 100.000. For more detailed information, which will be available closer to the date of the conference, indicate your interest on the Accommodation and Excursions Request Form.

Bank Draft:
Have the bank draft issued by your bank for the total amount of payments due, payable to EPAC'96. Due to strict Bank regulations in Spain, no personal cheques drawn on bank accounts from outside of Spain are accepted;

Eurocheque:
Eurocheques up to Ptas 25.000 are free of bank charges in Spain; send as many as necessary for your payments, ensuring that the value of each one does not exceed the above-mentioned figure;

Travel Arrangements

Arrival in Barcelona

The Barcelona International Airport is located on the coast, 25 km north of Sitges and 12 km south of the Barcelona city centre (Plaça de Catalunya).

Transport between the Airport and Sitges

Coach Shuttle Service on Sunday 9 June

There will be a free coach shuttle service from the airport to Sitges, every hour on the hour, stopping first at the Meliá Gran Sitges Hotel for those staying at this hotel and at the Hotel Estela, and then at the Plaça de la Estació (Railway Station square) in Sitges, for those staying at the other hotels. The journey takes approximately 30 minutes. The boarding point at the airport will be the coach parking bay located between Terminals A and B. Coaches will be clearly marked with EPAC'96 signs.

The first coach will depart from the airport at 10h00
The last coach will depart from the airport at 20h00.

Train

From Barcelona airport there is a regular train service to Sitges: the Airport Railway station is opposite Terminal "A", (access to walkway between Terminals "A" and "B"). The single fare from the Airport-El Prat de Llobregat-Sitges is 225 Ptas. It is necessary to change trains at El Prat de Llobregat as follows:

Airport Station to El Prat de Llobregat station (average journey 6 minutes). Trains depart from the Airport every half hour at 11 and 41 minutes past the hour. The first service is at 06h41, the last at 22h41.

El Prat de Llobregat Station to Sitges (average journey 26 minutes). Trains depart from El Prat de Llobregat every half hour. First service at 06h50, last at 23h10.

Taxi

An average journey by taxi from the airport to Sitges should take 20 minutes, and depending on weather and traffic, the cost of the ride should be around 5,500 Pesetas with the motorway toll and baggage included.

Departure on Friday, 14 June A free coach shuttle service will be available between Plaça Estació-Meliá Gran Sitges Hotel-Airport, every hour on the hour, from 14h00 to 20h00.

Transport between Sitges and Barcelona

Coach

There is a regular coach service between Sitges and Barcelona, operated by the HILL S.A. Bus Company. Departure point from Sitges is the Oasis Shopping Center (close to the Sitges Railway Station), and the arrival point in the Barcelona city centre is No. 33 of the Ronda Universitat (close to the Plazas Universitat and Catalunya). Same boarding point in Barcelona for the return journey. The average journey takes around 35 minutes. Single fare: 400 Ptas; Same day return fare: 700 Ptas. The schedules, Monday to Friday, are as follows:

Departures from Sitges:
07h00, 08h00, 09h00, 10h00, 11h00, 12h00, 13h20, 14h20, 15h20, 16h20, 17h20, 18h50, 19h40, 20h40, 20h40

Departures from Barcelona:

Train

There are regular train services (every half hour) from Sitges to Barcelona and vice versa. The average journey from Sitges to Barcelona-Sants (Central Station) should take 35 minutes, and to the next stop Barcelona-Passeig de Gracia station (city centre) 40 minutes.

Fares: Sitges-Barcelona (either Sants or Passeig de Gracia) is Ptas 300, or Ptas 600 for a same day return ticket.

4 Zones Pass: Allows use of the train between Sitges and Barcelona (either Sants or Passeig de Gracia) up to 10 journeys. The cost of this 4 zones pass, which can be purchased at the Sitges station, is 2250 Ptas. Note that it is not a personal pass, and a family or group of two or three persons travelling together can use two or three journeys from the pass at the same time.

Taxi

An average journey by taxi between Sitges and the Barcelona city centre (Passeig de Gracia or Plaça Catalunya) should take 25 minutes, and depending on weather and traffic, the cost of the ride should be around 6,500 Ptas with the motorway toll included.

SOCIAL PROGRAMME

On Sunday, 9 June 1996 a reception for delegates will be held in the Conference Hotel.

The conference dinner will be held at the Drassanes Reials in Barcelona on Wednesday, 12 June 1996. The Drassanes Reials is the world's single most important secular Gothic monument. Originally the shipyard of the royal fleet, since the 13th century it has served the city in one capacity or another, and now offers itself as an exceptional public forum and is the home to one of the world's great Maritime Museums. The cost of the banquet is included in the registration fee for delegates. The cost to spouses will be 7000 Ptas (to be paid in advance at the same time as the registration fee - see registration form). A small number of tickets may be available for purchase at the Conference Desk until 12h00 on Monday 10 June 1996.

Cultural Activities and Excursions

Sitges, 35 km south of Barcelona, is a modern sea resort built around an older fishing village. There are many interesting places to visit in the area, and some proposals for tours are being prepared. Barcelona, host of the 1992 summer olympic games, is a half-hour train journey away and offers many interesting sights and cultural activities .

GRANTS

Financial Support for Young Scientists

As in the past, some help towards the cost of travel and accommodation will be available for young European graduate students under 30 years of age. Selected candidates will receive a voucher for pre-paid accommodation for 6 nights or a cash equivalent, depending on organizational availability, plus 3000 Ptas per day pocket money, and travel expenses (second class train or equivalent value) upon presentation of the ticket. The registration fee will be waived and the proceedings will be free of charge. Applications for support must be submitted on a special application form by the deadline of 11 March 1996. Successful applicants will be informed by end March, and will be required to respond with a formal acceptance by end April. Application forms may be obtained from the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee as follows:

Limited financial support will be available for contributing scientists from Eastern European countries. Selected applicants will receive either a voucher for pre-paid accommodation or a cash equivalent, depending on organizational avilability, plus 3000 Ptas per day pocket money, and reimbursement of travel expenses by the most economical route. The registration fee will be waived and the proceedings will be free of charge. The deadline for the submission of requests is 11 December 1995. Successful applicants will be informed by end-March, and will be required to respond with a formal acceptance by end-April. Applications for support must be submitted on a special form which may be obtained from the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (see above) .

ANNOUNCEMENT OF EUROPEAN ACCELERATOR PRIZES

The EPS-IGA is sponsoring two European Accelerator Prizes. One prize is for a physicist or engineer who is under the age of 40 at the time of EPAC'96 and who has made a significant, original contribution to the accelerator field within the last six years. The other prize has no age limit, and is for an individual or group of individuals demonstrating achievement and innovation in the accelerator field since the commencement of EPAC in 1988. There is no restriction as to nationality. The deadline for receipt of nominations is 1 December 1995.The recipients will receive a certificate and a cash prize, which will be presented during a short public ceremony at EPAC'96. They will also be invited to make an oral presentation of the work which earned them the prize. Nominations must be made on a special Nomination Form available from the EPAC Executive Secretary.
