EPAC 2000, 26-30 June 2000, Austria Center ViennaIntroduction to the Conference, to Vienna and the Conference Venue
Vienna, the capital of Austria, is one of the most beautiful cultural centres of Europe. Best known as a town of fine arts and music (for example the place of the famous New Year's Concert performed by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra), Vienna is also a place of impressive historical architecture. Situated in the heart of Europe, Vienna's role as a bridge between East and West is respected worldwide.
The seventh European Particle Accelerator Conference in the series, EPAC 2000, will take place at the Austria Center Vienna, a modern conference centre close to the seat of the United Nations, and easily reached from the heart of the city by Vienna's underground transport system. It was built when the United Nations made Vienna its third headquarters, together with New York and Geneva. It is a modular conference centre with a maximum of 14 halls (total area 9.400 m2). It is used for all kinds of events: political conferences, scientific congresses with related exhibitions, concerts, product launches, and shows.
